I've been sluggish on the ol' blog lately, it's true. I actually think the deep down reason is because I haven't been happy with my photo sharing system for a long time. So I'm going back to Shutterfly and I think we'll all be happy.
So, here's another "what we've been up to" photo dump.
I mentioned my Mom came for a visit, and while it was a lot of running from one birthday to the next, we did take her and Al out to Fredericksburg. We really enjoyed the wildflower farm out there.
Here Carlie is smiling at some total strangers who thought she was so cute, they had to take a picture:
Garrett and Nate joined us later to hike up Enchanted Rock and finish up the day with some amazing barbecue at Coopers.
Garrett has been playing T-Ball and having fun with that. I asked if he wanted to play Soccer again in the fall, but he said he wants to try all the sports before he goes back to one.
And Carlie and I dyed silk scarves with Kool Aid. I didn't take a final picture, so I'm not even sure why I'm including this one. But here it is!
We had a conference at Garrett's school yesterday that was entirely student-led. He showed us his portfolio and some of his best work from the year. Kind of crazy that his Kindergarten year is almost over. I'm already spending my free time making a list of activities and planning out the summer. I'm tentatively looking forward to getting to have a bunch of fun with both kids for a little while! Garrett's school starts back up the second week of August, so it will be a fast summer!

Garrett came home from school today and asked if I wanted to wiggle his tooth. Yes, the same loose tooth I mentioned months ago. It's been hanging on for dear life.
So I said sure. He opened his mouth and the tooth was gone! (Actually I was playing along because Nate called me just after he pulled it out when they got to school this morning. But I had to give credit to Garrett, who had doubtlessly been planning the Big Reveal all day at school).
The plan all along was to lose the tooth at school, where the nurse will give a plastic tooth on a necklace to keep it in. Luckily, losing the tooth on the way to school merits a plastic tooth necklace as well. Whew!
Carlie wants to know how Garrett's going to eat now that he's lost all his teeth.
Party Time!

Garrett and I celebrated our birthdays this past weekend. My Mom and her husband, Al, came to town to help us celebrate. We had a really good time.
True to my usual thought, I don't feel surprised that Garrett is already 6, but I can't believe that next year he will be 7. Oh my goodness! That sounds so old! Luckily I have a whole year to get used to the idea.
Garrett asked for a Magic Tree House theme party. That is a series of beginner chapter books that he has read through. I had fun coming up with games for each of his 5 favorite books. We had an Amazon Obstacle Course, decorated Mammoth Bone flutes, sank tiny Titanics, erupted volcanoes, and had a Hawaiian luau.

Who is Garrett these days? He likes to read and draw. He still loves fighter jets, sharks, and the military. The cool toy to own (according to his classmates) is a Bey Blade, which is a kind of a fancy (overpriced!) spinning top. Whenever he is acting out an interesting scenario and things get tense, he starts to hum "Carol of the Bells." Right now he is playing T-Ball and also taking art lessons at a nearby studio. His favorite dinner is sloppy joes and he asked to go out to a sushi restaurant for his birthday. He's my good boy and we love him so much!
I also had a nice birthday. Nate and the kids made me breakfast in bed. I went clothes shopping with my Mom and out for crab legs for dinner. I got some nice presents and lots of happy greetings. I always wonder if Garrett is sad that his festivities are over so soon since my birthday is the next day, but he is sweet and seems happy to pass the spotlight on.

Garrett: Hey Dad, how come there weren't any TVs when you were a kid?
How old do these kids think we are?! :D
In other news, I developed an allergy to medication this morning and I'm now completely covered with hives so thick it almost looks like a sunburn. But worse. I would post a picture, but I don't want to give you nightmares. Yet another itchy ailment. Apparently I will have them all before I'm done.
