My two good friends and I have been working hard since last October to get in better shape. We set a goal to run in a 5K and today we did it! I think we are all pretty pleased with ourselves. I was always one of the slowest kids in PE. And when we all started to run (6-12 months after our second babies), we couldn't even run half of our short track at the rec center without getting terrible cramps. That track is 1/11 of a mile. So we're talking pretty out of shape! I love these girls. They really kept me going! My final time was 33:19. When we're booking it on the (flat) track, our best pace is about 11:30 a mile, so the fact that we killed that with hills was pretty cool. :) Also Garrett and I went to Disney on Ice. Mickey's backfiring car at the beginning startled him slightly. Until he had time to reflect on it during Intermission and started absolutely panicking. I had to hide his sobbing head in my shoulder until we could confirm that the car was fixed and would not be backfiring anymore. We went with his friend Kloey. Garrett is very matter-of-factly going to marry Kloey. He refuses to show her any affection 90% of the time, but he has told us we can't ever move or he won't be able to marry her. He already has names picked out for their children: Thomas, Percy, James, and Salty.

My brother was sent to Austin on business and we were lucky enough to hang out with him and his girlfriend this past weekend! We tried out all the Austin highlights and didn't let all the rainy weather get to us. We had fun downtown going to Zilker Park and the Botanical Garden
And the Capitol
To Mt. Bonnell And of course, eating some really good BBQ and crawfish, visiting the new Cedar Park Farmers Market, going to the Oasis, Hey Cupcake, and Central Market. It's no DC/Maryland, and it's not Utah, but we like our Austin. Thanks for the great visit Dustin and Tessa! On an unrelated note, take a look at this stud:

It's Bluebonnet time here in Central Texas, which means lots of cute pictures for all! Our first Bluebonnet attempt was last week on Easter. The overall excitement was a bit much for Carlie and this photo shoot didn't go so well. Not bad at first. We didn't know about the huge smudge on the lens so you can barely see Garrett, but we all look happy enough. Hmm, not so sure about it now.... And that pretty much sums it up. Garrett was trying to be a trooper. Well, we have a nice patch right by our house, so we gave it another try during our regular bike ride: Much better!
For Easter we went to a community egg hunt for the first time. I'm fairly skeptical of these events. I used to organize and manage one and the event had a history of parental fist fights. But this one was well executed. When the horn sounded, Garrett took off like Apollo Ohno so he could get to the treats in the middle while all the other babies were fighting over the candy at the edges. We might have over-strategized for the age bracket just a wee bit. Here's high-water Hayden celebrating the good times on the back of a fire truck.
